unions

Unions are a key labour market institution. They impact on the activities of households, workplaces, the education system, and public policy, they are central to any analysis of gender and work.

Unions are also part of the broader social movement which seeks justice, equity, and inclusivity. This module considers unions as both social movements and institutions. Its multiple components address the themes of union renewal, leadership and representation, worker militancies, organizing the unorganized, and the union advantage. In addition to its scholarly purpose, the module also has a strategic intent. It includes equity resources from Canadian unions and an extensive webography aimed at both researchers and activists in unions and universities.
