This survey probes the extent of coverage under Canada's Employment Insurance program. Data collected allow analysts to identify the segments of the non- working population (defined by Statistics Canada as those who are unemployed) who do not receive benefits and to gather information on the nature of coverage and the design of the employment insurance system. Funded by Human Resources Development Canada as part of the monitoring and analysis of the Employment Insurance (EI) program, the survey provides data for research into the degree of income protection provided the Canadian population by the Employment Insurance Program that is critical to understanding precarious employment in the Canadian labour market, gendered patterns of unpaid care-giving amongst Canadians, and social insurance coverage by sector and industry.
