The Health and Activity Limitation Survey, together with the 1983-84 Canadian Health and Disability Survey, is part of Statistics Canada's National Disability Database Program. This survey collects data on persons with disabilities living in Canada; it provides a wide range of information on the nature of disabilities, the barriers that persons with disabilities encounter, use of and need for assistive devices, and out-of- pocket expenses related to disability. Along with the new Physical Activity Limitation Survey, data from this survey are useful across modules, given the integrated understanding of social relations of inequality underpinning the database as a whole.
