Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB)

The Longitudinal Immigration Database is a database linking immigrant landing records to taxation records. It covers the period 1980 to the present and is updated annually. This database is a comprehensive source of data on the economic activities of immigrants in Canada that file taxes. It is the only source of data that provides a direct link between immigration policy levers and the economic performance of immigrants. Central to the organization of the immigration module, the database allows for the analysis of relative labour market behaviour of different categories of immigrants over a sufficiently long time period to assess the impact of immigrant characteristics, such as education and knowledge of French or English, at the time of arrival, to their income.
