National Population Health Survey (NPHS)

Especially useful in the health care industry module, the National Population Health Survey collects information on the health of the Canadian population and related socio-demographic information. The first cycle of data collection took place in 1994-1995 and the survey is designed to continue every second year until 2015. The cross-sectional component of the Population Health Survey Program was taken over by the Canadian Community Health Survey in 2000-2001. (Data from this survey are also used in the precarious employment module).

Two components in the National Population Health Survey (the survey of households and the survey of health care institutions) allow the health care industry module to depict relationships between gender, social reproduction, relations of distribution in households, and the restructuring of employment relationships in health care.
